Cobolt Speechmaster Talking Voice Recorder Model A Instructions The Voice Recorder will record up to 30 messages, each with a length of up to 30 seconds, with 2 buttons to select/toggle between messages. BUTTON LAYOUT: The top of the recorder has a curved edge. Hold the recorder with the slightly domed speaker facing you. Underneath this is a circle with a recessed button which is the main control button (Button 1). To the right of this are two smaller buttons. The top one (Button 2) and the lower one (Button 3). On the right-hand edge is the volume control. OPERATION: To Record a Message: Press and hold the main control button (Button 1) for approximately 2 seconds. This will activate the record function. The unit will announce “release to record”, followed by a beep when you release the button. Release the button to begin recording. You will then hear “record”. Begin recording your message. PLEASE NOTE: If your message is shorter than 2 seconds, the voice recorder will automatically extend the message by adding a tone/beep to the end of your message. This increases the length of the message so that the Voice Recorder can recognise any subsequent button presses (for instance when deleting a message function is used). To end your recording press Button 1. The unit will announce “recording ended”, followed by a beep. The recorder switches off. If the user does not end the recording manually as above, after 30 seconds you will hear “recording ended”, followed by a beep. The recorder switches off. To Replay a Message: Press and release Button 1 to play back your last recorded message. Once replayed, the recorder will beep and switch off. If no messages have been recorded, after pressing Button 1 you will hear “no messages, turning off”. To Pause a Message: Press Button 1 momentarily whilst a message is playing. The recorder announces “pause”. To continue playing your message press Button 1 momentarily again. Please note - if the paused message is not restarted after 60 seconds, the recorder will announce “turning off”, beep and switch off. To Delete a Message: Whilst playing the message to be deleted, press and hold Button 1 until you hear the announcement “hold to delete, release to cancel”. Continue holding the button down. After a few seconds “message deleted”, is announced followed by a beep. The recorder switches off. To cancel the delete function, release Button 1 when you hear the prompt “hold to delete, release to cancel”. The recorder will announce “delete cancelled”, followed by a beep. The recorder switches off. For very short messages where the message finishes before 3 seconds, the unit does not turn off and the delete process continues. Please note - to instantly delete all messages stored on your recorder, play a message and whilst message is playing, take off the battery cover. You will have no messages. BUTTONS 2 AND 3: Buttons 2 and 3 are for selecting between your saved messages. Button 2 moves you onto the next message. Button 3 takes you back to the previous message. Please note there does have to be a message playing in order to skip. Please note - if you only have one message stored, pressing Buttons 2 or 3 will restart that message. Pressing Button 2 for more than two seconds will stop the current message being played. The recorder will announce “turning off”, followed by a beep. The recorder switches off. Pressing Button 3 for longer than 2 seconds causes the unit to say “release to repeat”, and the currently playing message restarts. VOLUME CONTROL: Turn the volume control clockwise to increase the volume and anti clockwise to decrease. There is about three quarters of a turn from zero volume to full volume. Do not force the control past these points. If resistance is felt it has reached an end limit. BATTERIES: The voice recorder uses 2 x AAA Alkaline batteries. The battery compartment is at the bottom of the left-hand edge of the case, marked with raised lines. Slide the cover down. Remove the old batteries and ensure that the new ones are inserted in the correct way. As you hold the unit with the battery compartment facing upwards and close to you, insert the first battery in the position furthest away, with the positive end of the battery facing upwards. Place the battery closest to you in the unit with the positive end facing down. Replace the battery compartment door by sliding it back onto the unit and ensuring that it clicks into place. You have about 20 seconds to change the batteries before all message data is lost.
