Cobolt Speechmaster Talking Timer Clock Instructions Your clock has four buttons on the front face in two rows. The top row buttons are slightly wider apart than those on the lower row. The top left is the MODE button, top right is TIME, lower left is SET UP-REPORT-LAP and lower right is STATUS-START-STOP. Throughout the rest of these instructions these buttons will be referred to as TL (top left), TR (top right), LL (lower left) and LR (lower right). FUNCTIONS Your clock has five distinct functions or operating modes. It can be used as an alarm clock, a count down timer, a count down timer with automatic reporting, an auto-repeating timer and a stop watch. You use the TL button to step through the various modes. Regardless of which mode you are in the TR button will always tell you the time. The three timers each have their own memories and as you step through the timer modes, if you wait for a moment before stepping to the next timer, you will hear each one report the time it was last set to. This enables you to use the same setting repeatedly if you wish. The timers can be used independently but only one can be running at a time. ALARM CLOCK With this mode selected, provided you are not adjusting any of the settings, the lower right button will advise whether the alarm or hourly report have been selected. To set any of the clock functions use the lower left button - each press will step through to the next function and once the end of the list is reached it will start again at the beginning. Pressing the lower right button will alter the selected function. This means that altering any setting is simply a matter of stepping to the appropriate point with the lower left button then selecting the required setting with the lower right. Once the settings have been adjusted pressing either of the top row buttons will take the clock out of setting mode and the lower right button will revert to its function of advising you of the alarm status. Most of the selectable functions are self explanatory, such as setting the time etc, but several are unique and are used as follows:- SNOOZE ON/OFF This relates to the alarm. With snooze off, when the alarm sounds pressing any button will stop it. With snooze on, when the alarm sounds pressing any button will stop it temporarily - the clock will say "SNOOZE" followed by the time and the alarm will sound again after 10 minutes. If any button is pressed within 5 seconds of the clock saying "SNOOZE" the alarm will be switched off until the next day. VOLUME The volume settings of the speech and alarm can be adjusted independently. ALARM SOUNDS You have 11 different sounds to choose from. The selected sound will also be used for the timers and stopwatch. TIME STYLE You can choose to have the time spoken in either the usual precise format or in a more relaxed but less precise form. TIME SETTING In order to precisely synchronise your clock with a reference- (speaking clock, time signal etc)- set the clock to the current minute. At the moment your reference changes to the next minute press the lower right button to change your clock to the next minute. The internal seconds counter will then be set to zero at the same moment. TIMER This is the basic count-down timer mode. With this selected, provided you have not started the timer, the LL button is used to select hours, minutes and seconds and the LR button to set the count-down time. The maximum period is 23 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds and the minimum period is 10 seconds. The first press of the LL button will report the currently set count-down time, subsequent presses will allow you to alter it. Once the count-down time has been set the LL button must be used to report this setting before the timer can be started. This is because the LR button is used to Start, Pause and Restart the timer. With the timer running the LL button will report the time remaining and whether the timer is paused. The TL button will stop the timer and reset it back to the count-down time which you selected. This enables you to restart the same period again if you wish. Once the timer has fully counted down the alarm will sound for two minutes or until any button is pressed. You will then be advised that the timer has finished. TIMER WITH REPORT This is used in exactly the same way as the basic count-down timer. The difference being that the remaining time will be reported automatically at the following stages:- TIME REMAINING REPORT Above 1 hour On each hour Last hour At half hour Last half hour Every 10 minutes Last 10 minutes Every minute Last 3 minutes Every 30 seconds Last minute Every 10 seconds Last 10 seconds Every second The minimum period for this timer is 20 seconds and it cannot be paused or stopped during the final 10 second count-down. AUTO REPEAT TIMER This is used in exactly the same way as the basic count-down timer. The difference in this case being that once the count down has completed and the alarm sounded the timer will automatically restart itself for the same period. This is particularly useful for reminding yourself to do something, such as to take medication, at set intervals. In this case, instead of being advised that the timer has finished, you will be advised that it will auto-repeat after the specified time. The minimum period for this timer is 3 minutes STOPWATCH With this selected the LR button is used to Start, Stop and Restart the stopwatch. Each time it is stopped the total elapsed time is reported. While the stopwatch is running pressing the LL button will report the total time elapsed so far followed by the word "LAP" and the stopwatch will continue to run. There is no limit to the number of laps or events which can be timed in this way. If the LL button is pressed with the watch stopped then the total time elapsed is reported. If the TL button is pressed while the stopwatch is running or has been stopped it will stop the watch and reset it to zero. Pressing this button again will step to the Alarm Clock Mode. The maximum period for the stopwatch is 23 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds and it counts to the nearest 100th of a second. Battery Your clock is powered by either an optional 7.5v 150mA centre positive mains adaptor or a 9V PP3 battery housed in a compartment on the back of the case at the left end. There is a small recess in the centre of the inner edge of the cover which houses the release catch. Please ensure that no buttons have been pressed for 20 seconds prior to changing the battery and that none are pressed until the new one is fitted. This will normally enable you to change the battery without losing any of the settings. If any information is lost during the battery change the clock will warn you by saying "CLOCK RESET". We strongly recommend that an alkaline battery is used for maximum life. If using the adaptor do not connect or disconnect it while the clock is speaking as this may cause it to lock. If this happens remove & re-fit the batteries then re-set the clock. Modified 18/03/2020
