Cobolt Speechmaster Talking Kitchen Scale Instructions PRECAUTIONS Your scale has been designed and built to the highest standards. By observing these few basic precautions it should provide you with many years of reliable service: a. Avoid subjecting the scale to violent shocks or leaving weights on it for long periods. b. Never immerse the scale in water. The bowl may be washed and can be safely cleaned in a dishwasher, but a gentle wipe with a slightly damp cloth is all that should be applied to the scale itself. c. Do not use any form of chemical cleaner or solvent on the scale or bowl as these can damage plastic surfaces. d. Always switch the scale off after use. e. If using batteries, change them promptly when exhausted as old batteries can leak and cause damage. f. If using the mains adaptor, please remember to switch it off after use and/or before cleaning the scale. POWER SUPPLY The scale can be powered by either batteries or mains adaptor. We recommend that the mains adaptor supplied with the unit be used for normal operation to avoid the cost and inconvenience of replacing batteries: a. Battery Operation Insert a 9V PP3 battery into the battery compartment located on the bottom side of the scale. b. Adaptor Operation The scale can also be powered by local mains using an AC adaptor with 7.5V 150mA centre-positive output. OPERATION To turn the scale on, slide the "Gramme/Ounce/Off" selector switch on the side of the scale to gm or oz. (rear or centre position). After approximately 3 secs the scale will say "ZERO" and is now ready for use. To adjust the volume, press and hold down the "ON/RESET" button on the front face of the scale. The scale will say "ZERO" and after a short pause will begin repeating this at various volumes. Release the button when the desired volume has been reached. The selector switch may be moved between "oz" and "gm" at any time. This will cause the scale to speak the current weight in the new mode automatically. If you have reset the scale to zero and subsequently reduce the weight below this point, it will automatically reset to zero at the new level and say "ZERO". e.g. This will happen if you reset the scale with the bowl in place and then subsequently remove the bowl. If you increase the weight slowly a high tone "beep" will sound for every 5gr/half oz increase in weight. The weight will be spoken approx 2 sec after you stop adding weight. If you decrease the weight slowly a low tone "beep" will sound for every 5gm/half oz decrease in weight. The weight will be spoken approx 2 sec after you stop reducing the weight. If you add or remove a relatively large weight the "beeps" will not sound but the weight will be spoken after a few seconds. If a weight is spoken and you then add and quickly remove a weight, the original weight will not be repeated. If at any time you wish the scale to repeat a weight, gently press downwards on the rim of the bowl with a finger. The scale will speak the weight within a few seconds. Please note that only a gentle press is required and a little practice may be necessary to establish the correct force. These features allow you to measure a weight quickly and accurately by placing the approximate quantity on the scale, listening to the weight, then adding or removing small amounts while listening to the "beeps". To turn the scale off, slide the "Gramme/Ounce/Off" selector to the "Off" (forward) position. TARING - Taring allows the scale to be reset to zero while there is an object on the scale pan. This feature is extremely useful for weighing multiple ingredients or objects that need to be carried in containers such as liquids. For example, the procedure to weigh a specific quantity of flour is as follows: 1. Place an empty bowl on the scale pan. . Press the "ON/RESET" button and wait for the scale to say "ZERO". 3. Pour the flour to be weighed into the bowl. 4. Wait for the scale to speak the weight. You may obtain the weight of a second ingredient as follows: 1. With the bowl and first ingredient on the scale pan, press the "ON/RESET" button once again and wait for the scale to say "ZERO". 2. Add the second ingredient to the bowl on the scale pan and wait for the scale to speak the weight. The total weight of all objects on the scale must not be greater than 5000gm or 11 lbs. If this is exceeded a warning tone will sound. SPECIFICATION: 1. Functions: Maximum weight 5000gm (11 lbs) Gm/oz switch selectable Taring 2. Resolution: 1/2 oz or 5gm 3.
