I-Tell Instructions Your I-Tell has been designed to enable you to use your I-Pod without having to use the I-Pod's display or controls. It takes its power from the I-Pod and, in order to maximise battery life, we suggest that you dim the I-Pod display as far as possible if your model allows this. We also suggest that you press the MENU key on the I-Pod several times, followed by PLAY, to ensure it is set to its top music menu before connecting it to the I-Tell. There are seven buttons on the front face. Four are arranged around the circumference of a circle, one is in the centre of the circle and two are below the circle. The top of the circle is “MENU”, bottom is “PLAY”, left is “BACK” and right is “FORWARD”. The central button is “SELECT” and the bottom two adjust the volume. Hold the I-Tell with the cable at the bottom. Plug your earphones into the socket on the bottom edge of the case, next to the cable, and insert the connector plug on the end of the cable gently into the docking socket on the I-Pod, with the cable to the right. This will only fit one way round. The I-Tell will now beep for a few seconds while it takes control of the I-Pod. When ready it will speak its version number and the name you have given the I-Pod. At this stage pressing the “MENU” button will move between the main and set up menus. Pressing “SELECT” will select one of these menus. If you press “PLAY” the first tune in the I-Pod will begin playing. If you press “BACK” or “FORWARD” the I-Tell will say “Incorrect Key”. GENERAL When you first connect your I-Tell the first thing you will normally do is to select either the set up or main menu. Whichever you choose, the general principle of operation is that you use the “BACK” and “FORWARD” keys to step through the items in the menu, the “SELECT” key to choose a particular item in the list and the “MENU” key to go back a step. SET UP MENU This menu is used to alter the sound of the voice. If you find the default voice difficult to understand you may wish to experiment with these settings. It often helps to slow the speech down and increase the gap between words until you become familiar with the I-Tell's pronunciation. You may find some song titles more difficult to understand initially until you become familiar with the voices. The first item in this menu is the voice type. Pressing the “BACK” and “FORWARD” buttons will step through the voice type, speed and word gap. Pressing “SELECT” will then enable you to use use the “BACK” and “FORWARD” buttons again to choose between the available types, speeds and gaps. In each case pressing “SELECT” will save that particular setting. Then press “MENU” to go back to the set up menu. A further press of the “MENU” button will take you back to the top level. If you press “PLAY” whilst in the set up menu the I-Tell will say “Incorrect Key”. MAIN MENU Pressing the “BACK” and “FORWARD” buttons will step through playlists, artists, albums, genres, songs, composers, audio books, shuffle songs and shuffle albums. Press “SELECT” to choose between these and then use the “BACK” and “FORWARD” buttons to step through the next available choices and so on. You can always go back a step at a time by pressing the “MENU” button until you eventually arrive back at the top level. Once you have selected a track you can use the “PLAY” button to pause it. Another press will resume playing. If left paused for 2 minutes the I-Pod and I-Tell will turn off. Pressing any key will turn them back on. OPERATION 1. Selecting shuffle songs will cause all the tunes on the I-Pod to be played in random order. 2. Selecting shuffle albums will cause an album to be selected at random then all the tunes on that album to be played in order. Another album will then be selected at random and so on. 3. While at the lowest level, after selecting a song, a brief press of the “FORWARD” button will take you to the next track. A brief press of “BACK” will take you back to the beginning of the track and a second brief press within 2 seconds will take you to the previous track. Pressing and holding these buttons down will fast forward or fast rewind through the track. If you then press the button again briefly within ˝ a second you will be told how far you are into the track. To turn the I-Pod and I-Tell off just press and hold the “PLAY” button for 3 seconds. Pressing any button will turn them back on and they will resume from the point at which you turned them off. If at any time the unit appears to have stopped working just disconnect it from the I-Pod, leave it for a few seconds then re-connect it. If it still does not work then the I-Pod probably requires re-charging. If this doesn't solve the problem then it may be necessary to re-set the I-Pod. To do this just disconnect it from the I-Tell, press the I-Pod's “MENU” and “SELECT” buttons and hold them down for 10 seconds. After 30 seconds the I-Pod will again be ready for use. The I-Tell connector has a socket on the opposite edge from the plug which connects to the I-Pod. This allows you to connect another external device to the I-Pod but you should be aware that not all devices will work. This is because the I-Tell needs to have full control of the I-Pod and will prevent another device from sending commands to it. The connector will allow you to connect a charger and most FM radio transmitters which enable you to listen to your music via a radio. You can also connect speakers to the I-Tell instead of earphones if you wish.
