Cobolt Speechmaster Talking EZ-1 Big Button Phone Instructions Please note - this phone has been dispatched with the time and date set and the speech activated. The speech will only announce the number buttons on the keypad as they are pressed. To disable the speech on dialling, go into SETTINGS, PROFILES, scroll down to OTHER ALERT RINGS. Scroll down to Dial Tone and when you select, you will have 3 options - Activate, Off and Human Voice Tone. Select Off to turn off the speech when dialling. Sighted assistance will be needed to set up the phone when assigning numbers to speed dial keys and adding numbers to the address book. INSERTING THE BATTERY AND THE SIM CARD Turn the phone over. On the back of the unit you will feel a horizontal ridged button about a centimetre down from the top on the right hand side. This is the SOS button; Moving left slightly across from this you will feel a raised area which is your camera lens; A little bit further left you will feel two vertical lines, this is the speaker. Moving down from the speaker to the bottom left hand corner curved edge of the phone, you will feel a lip. Holding the phone in your left hand, use your right hand thumbnail to prize open the back of the phone, remove the battery and fit the Sim card. Running your fingers vertically up the back of the open phone, you will feel an indented ridge located just above the battery. Using your finger nail, prise the battery out of the phone. The Sim card compartment is situated in the upper right hand corner of the battery recess, with the “cut off” corner to the bottom right hand side. Next replace the battery. Feel along the edges of the battery and you will feel three indents at one of the corner edges. This must be put in so that it is to the bottom right hand side of the battery recess. Finally put the back on the phone. There is a hole on the back which fits the SOS button, and this has to go to the upper right side of the back. Then just press the back in place. CHARGING THE BATTERY The battery indicator is located on the right hand side of the screen. There will be four bars displayed when the battery is fully charged. The bars will decrease as the battery life goes down. To charge the battery, plug the charger into the mains outlet and plug the jack into either the middle back of the phone cradle (please note the phone has to be in the cradle for this to charge the phone) or plug the charger directly into the bottom right hand socket on the phone itself. When the phone is fully charged, disconnect the mains outlet first and then remove the jack from the phone. TO TURN THE PHONE ON/OFF The On/Off button is the second button down from the screen on the right hand side. Press and hold this down for approximately three seconds and the phone will turn on. Repeat this process to turn the phone off. KEYPAD DESCRIPTION There are six rows of buttons in total starting below the LCD screen as follows: First Row Left hand button - confirmation / options Middle button - camera Right hand button - contacts / menu / return / hang up / back to screen. Second Row Left hand button - answer the phone / make a call. Middle button - upper part / up arrow for the audio player and when in menu to scroll through options, lower part / down arrow for the alarm and when in menu to scroll through options Right hand button - Power on / off, end call, reject call. Third Row Left hand button - number 1, and press and hold for voice mail. Middle button - number 2, letters A, B, and C Right hand button - number 3, letters D, E, and F. Fourth Row Left hand button - number 4, letters G, H, and I, left arrow key Middle button - number 5, letters J, K, and L Right hand button - number 6, letters M, N, and O, right arrow key. Fifth Row Left hand button - number 7, letters P, Q, R, and S Middle button - number 8, letters T, U, and V Right hand button - number 9, letters W, X, Y, and Z. Sixth Row Left hand button - star symbol, symbols Middle button - number 0, space bar, press and hold for torch on/off, hands free mode during a call. Right hand button - press and hold to switch profile mode (silence, vibrate, general), & key and # key and capitals key. You can use the number keys to input phone numbers for dialling, and saving. The number keys are also used as letter keys when sending messages and adding names and numbers to the phone book. The number keys 2 - 9 can be used as “speed dial” buttons. These will need to be programmed in. The number 1 button can be used to programme in your voicemail number. To set up a speed dial number, go into Contacts, phone book, select options and select others. A list of the speed dial keys will be shown (2 - 9). Choose an empty number key. Select this and then you will be prompted to enter the phone number you wish to assign to that key. MAKING AND ANSWERING A CALL Making a Call When the phone is on the home screen, you can dial the number you need on the keypad. The numbers will be spoken as they are entered. Next press the second button down on the left hand side to dial out. If you need to hang up, then you can press either of the top right hand buttons to do this. You can also make a call selecting a telephone number from your address book. Just go into the address book, and scroll through your numbers to find the one required, then following the procedure to dial out as above. You can also use a speed dial button which you can set up on your keypad between the numbers 2 to 9. Once the speed dial button is pressed and held, the number will dial for you. MENU FUNCTIONS In standby mode press the top left hand key to enter into the main menu. Once you are in the main menu use the up and down arrow keys to scroll through the functions. MENU SECTIONS Contacts Use this function to browse your phone book and enter new names and numbers. Once you have a contact numbers in your phone, you then have several options available: New - allows you to put a new contact on your phone, or your sim card View contact - you can scroll through your list of contacts Write a message - here you can type a text message, and then send it to a contact in your phone book Delete - allows you to delete contacts not required Others - this is where you can assign your speed dials and check your memory status Please note: under Others is where you have the ability to set Speed dial numbers, Service number, check Memory status. Messaging Use this function to write messages, view messages in your inbox (all your received messages), view messages in your outbox (all sent messages), see drafts of messages. When creating a text message, you use the keypad to type the message. Multiple presses of a button will access the various letters ie number 2 button is for A, B and C. You can also view your message templates, check your voice mail server, manage your messaging service, and check your message capacity. Call Logs Use this function to view any missed calls, view dialled calls, view received calls, view rejected calls, delete call log and view call times. ICE This function has your owner information, numbers list, button active on/off, emergency SMS, and your emergency alert. To set up your SOS number, go into the second option which is numbers list. You will then be prompted to add up to 5 numbers for your SOS contacts. Your SOS button is situated on the back of the phone and is ridged. Once pressed and held in, you phone will sound an alarm and automatically call your emergency number(s) and send a message to the phones saying “I need help”. Multimedia In this function you can start up the following: Camera DV - video recorder Audio player Video player Recorder - a voice recorder FM Radio You FM radio has the following functions: Auto search and save Channel list - displays the channels you have saved Save Manual search Background play on / off (enables the radio to play even when you are not in the radio function Record Record file list Storage When you are in your radio you can turn it off by pressing the top middle button (the same one for your camera) whilst in the radio function, or Exit (the top right hand button). Tools With the tools function you can access your files, calendar, calculator, alarm, and your network provider. Settings Select this to access the following: Call settings - use this to divert calls, use call waiting, bar calls, hide the ID, and put the phone into flight mode. Phone settings - use this to set the time and date, language, to setup shortcuts, turn the auto power on/off, and restore factory settings. Display - this enables you to change your wallpaper, change the display when the phone is in idle mode, change the contrast and change the amount of time the keypad is backlit for. User level setting - To select beginner or advanced mode. Security - enables you to put a pin number to your phone to unlock it, modify pin number, turn the phone lock off, modify the phones password, turn the auto keypad lock off and check your blacklist. Profiles - Set your ring type, change the ring settings, adjust the volume and change other alert rings. Camera To start up your camera function, press the top middle button. This launches the camera. You can now use the same top middle button to take a photograph. Once taken, you have the option to save your image, or go back to the camera. When saving the image, you can also send it to someone, or set as screen wallpaper. Please note that you will need an SD card if you plan to take and store several images. You have options within the camera as follows: Store photos - allows you to view your photos, and open them, send via Bluetooth, set as wallpaper, delete a photo, see the photos details, rename them, and mark them. DV mode - this option turns the video recorder on. Effect - gives various colour settings for your photos ie. Normal, black and white, blue etc. Settings - is to adjust the size and quality of the photos. Arrow Keys When the phone is in the idle mode, pressing the up arrow launches the Audio Player, and pressing the down arrow launches the alarm clock.
