Cobolt Speechmaster Portable Cassette Recorder With Radio Instructions Features: The Portable Cassette Recorder is a convenient and reliable solution for recording live audio. It is small enough to fit in a briefcase or handbag so you can take it almost anywhere. Functions include: Radio AM/FM: Listen to AM or FM radio stations when head phones are connected. Recording function: Make vocal notes and longer messages that can be played back with ease. Automatic Shut off: Automatically shuts off the recorder at the end of the tape when listening or recording. Loading a Tape: To open the cassette compartment door, with the front of the cassette recorder facing you, locate the small lip on the on the right and left hand side of the unit and pull the whole front face towards you. Insert a tape into the door's guides with the tape's open edge facing out and upwards and the side you want to play/record is facing the compartment's door. Gently press the door closed. The function buttons: When feeling from left to right along the top edge you will come to two rows of high protruding buttons (the back row starts slightly before the front row). The front row contains a long Play button with the smaller Record button at its right end. Left to right, on the back row, are the Stop, Rewind and Fast forward buttons. At the top back of the case is the Volume Control. Scroll this towards the left to turn the volume down to the right to turn the volume up. At the top of the right of the case is the Built In Microphone. This has a pitted surface. Following on down the right hand side of the case from the internal microphone recorder is the Earphone Socket allowing you to plug in a set of earphones for private listening. Next is the Tape or Radio selection switch letting you change between listening to the cassette tape or the radio station of your choice. Continuing down the right hand side is the Tuning wheel, scroll this towards the bottom for higher frequency and scroll upwards for lower frequency. Below the tuning wheel is the AM/FM selection switch, move this down for AM and up for FM On the bottom left edge of the case, there is a DC 5V micro USB socket for a mains power adaptor (not supplied). On the front of the unit to the bottom left you will feel a pitted speaker area. To the right of this is a smooth section where your AM/FM frequency indicator can be seen. Batteries: If the sound becomes distorted or weak or if the fast forward and rewind functions are unusually slow the batteries may need to be replaced. The battery compartment is located on the bottom right edge of the back of the unit. Press gently and slide the battery compartment cover down and then up (please note the lid of the battery compartment is fixed in place so do not try to take it off fully). The batteries should be fitted with their positive ends x2 AA, (with the pip), towards the left of the case. Put the first battery into the compartment and slide it to the left as far as you can to allow the second battery to be fitted. Replace the cover in reverse way to opening it. Put the flap down and slide/push up until you hear a click. The cover will be in place. Listening Safely: To protect your hearing when you use an earphone always set the volume to the lowest setting before operating the recorder. Then adjust volume to a comfortable level. Playing a Tape: Press Play and adjust Volume to the desired level. The Pause button temporarily stops the tape. Press STOP to stop the tape permanently - this will happen automatically at the end of the tape. Normal Recording: The Volume setting has no effect on recording. 1. Load a blank tape, or one you want to record over, into the tape compartment.. 2. Press Record to begin recording. Both Play and Record lock down. 3. For the best quality recording, place the recorder within 5 feet of the sound source. 4. Press Stop to stop recording or let the tape automatically stop when it reaches the end. Using Fast-Forward and Rewind: To rapidly advance or rewind the tape press Fast-Forward or Rewind buttons completely down. The button locks and the tape fast-forwards or rewinds to the end or until you press Stop.
