Cobolt Speechmaster TALKING BATHROOM SCALE Instructions GENERAL Your scale is made of glass which has been prepared with an anti slip coating for safety. Your scale is fully automatic and requires no manual adjustments or operation of switches. To familiarise yourself with the scale the flat surface should be uppermost when in use. Turning the scale over you will feel four raised feet, all of which have circular raised centers. You will also feel a flat rectangular area with a small raised area at one end. This is the battery compartment and when the scale is in use, this end of the scale should be furthest away from you when you weigh yourself. BATTERY Your scale uses one PP3 x 9v battery - we strongly recommend an alkaline type be used for maximum life. Lift up the lid of the battery compartment at the end with the dot - the lid will lift off. Connect the battery and fit it into the compartment by inserting the end with the connector first then sliding the battery into place. Line up and replace the lid, top edge first, and push down to close until it locks with an audible click. OPERATION Stand the scale on a firm even surface and step onto the flat surface of the scale, ensuring that the scale is the right way around as described earlier in this instruction booklet. You will hear a "BEEP" tone followed by a request to "PLEASE STEP OFF". If you now step off the scale will speak your weight. If you do not step off the request will be repeated at varying volume levels until you do so - this volume will then be fixed until you change it again. If, within 5 seconds of your weight being spoken, you press the bottom left or right corner of the scale down briefly with your foot and release it again immediately your weight will be converted between "STONES", "POUNDS" and "KILOS". Each time you do this the units will change and the new units will remain in effect until you change them again. Failure to speak or distorted speech indicate that the battery should be replaced. Please note that your scale should be used on a firm even surface for best results. If you find that the scale does not function correctly on a carpet the problem can usually be solved by placing it on a piece of flat board or a tray. If you find it difficult to balance on the scale it can be placed on a hard chair and operated by sitting on it. If you use this method please ensure that all your weight is supported by the scale. NOTE Your bathroom scale is a sophisticated piece of equipment which uses strain gauge technology coupled with a computerised calibration system to make it as accurate as possible, however it is still subject to some mechanical variation due to uneven floor surfaces, differences in the position on which you stand on it and any movement while it is taking its measurements. This means that you may see variations of up to 3 lb/1.5 kg between successsive readings. This does not mean your scale is faulty and the effect can be minimised by standing as centrally and as still as possible. If your scale says "ERROR" while you are standing on it this means that it has not been able to see a stable reading. In this case please step off then on again.
