Cobolt Speechmaster Analogue Radio Controlled Talking Clock Instructions This radio controlled clock works by receiving the time signals from the nearest broadcasting station. When the time signal is received, the clock will synchronize to the correct time. Everything is done automatically however your clock can also be set manually. For best reception, avoid placing the unit near television sets, metal surfaces, computers or electric devices as these may interfere with the reception of radio signals. Button Layout: Along the top of the unit you will feel a long raised button. This is the VOICE/LIGHT button or S1 button. On pressing this button once, the clock speaks the time (Hour and Minute). A second press on the S1 button and the clock speaks the date (Day, Date and Month). A third press of this button and the clock will give a spoken reception status check. If the reception was successful the clock will say “Time Updated”, and if it has not been successful the clock will say “Time Not Updated”. On the front of the unit you will feel a large round display which houses the dial. Underneath this are two buttons. The left hand button called S2 can be pressed once to check the alarm time setting and whether the alarm is set to on or off. The right hand button called S3 is only used when in the setting alarm mode. On the right hand side of the unit is a ridged sliding button called S4. In its lowest position the speech is turned off. There are then 3 levels of volume as you slide the button upwards. Turning the unit around so that the front and dial faces away from you, you have 4 more buttons on the back right hand side. These are S5 (top) - Wave button, S6 (middle) - Reset button, S9 (bottom left) - Advance hour button and S10 (bottom right) - Advance minute button. Please note that the S9 and S10 buttons are only used if a manual time setting has to be enabled. Setting the Alarm Time: To set the alarm time, press S2 (bottom left) button once to hear the current alarm status and whether the alarm is on or off. Press the S2 (bottom left) button again and you will hear the unit speak hours going upwards. Press until you have selected the alarm hour required. Pressing the S3 (bottom right) button at this stage will cause the unit to speak the alarm minutes, again going upwards. Press until you have selected the alarm minutes required. Finally press the S1 (top) button to confirm. Turning the Alarm On / Off: To turn on / off the alarm, when in normal time mode, press and hold the S3 (bottom right) button until the clock says “activated”. To deactivate the alarm press and hold S3 (bottom right) button again until you hear the clock announce “deactivated”. Please note: If you have turned off the speech with the S4 button (ridged button on the right hand side with clock facing you) you will not hear the spoken time, the alarm setting or the alarm “Beep”. Using the Alarm Without Using Speech: If you want to turn off the speech element of the unit but would still like the alarm to sound at the preset time set the alarm as described earlier in this booklet. Once this is set, press and hold the S1 (top button) until you hear a double “dit” sound. This will stop all speech but the alarm will still “Beep”. To turn the speech back on to normal, press and hold the S1 (top button) until you hear a single “dit” sound. The speech is now activated. Using the Alarm Snooze Function: To use your alarm snooze function, on hearing the unit “Beep” at the appropriate time, press the S1 (top) button once. This will automatically put the alarm into snooze mood. Your clock will then repeat the “Beep” of the alarm 5 minutes later. Your clock can be put into snooze mode for a maximum of 5 times (5 presses of the S1 or top button). Stopping the Alarm without using Snooze Function: To stop the alarm and not put the unit into Snooze mode, simply press and hold down the S1 (top) button until the clock talks the current time. The snooze function will be deactivated. Completely Silence the Clock (Alarm and Speech): Slide the S4 (ridged slide button on the right hand side of the clock) to the bottom of its range. Volume Setting: Use the S4 (ridged slide button on the right hand side of the clock) and move upwards to achieve 3 levels of volume. Do not forget that the lowest point in the range will mute the sound and the alarm. Manual Time Setting for Country without a Time Signal: If you are in an area where you cannot receive a time signal you can set it manually by doing the following: With the clock facing away from you so that the ridged S4 slide button is on the left hand side, locate the 4 buttons on the back on the right hand side of the unit. There is one button at the top (S5), a button underneath this (S6 - the reset button), and then 2 buttons side by side at the bottom (S9 and S10). Pressing the S9 (or left hand side) button will change the hour of the time. Pressing the S10 (or right hand side) button will change the minutes of the time. Press the S1 (top) button to confirm your new time. The clock hands will automatically spin around until the required time is reached. Once the hands have ceased spinning the clock will resume to normal running mode. Please note: You are not able to change the date details manually on your clock.Backlight: The backlight is switched on when the S1 (top) button is pressed. Reset Button: On the back of the unit on the left hand side are 4 buttons. The second button down which is slightly less risen than the other 3 buttons is the Reset button or S6. Press this to reset the unit. Once this button is set, the hands will fast run to the 12 o’clock position. Then place the unit in an area like a window sill to pick up a time signal. This could take between 1 and 24 hours. Changing the batteries and synchronizing the two units: The clock takes 2 x C Cell 1.5 volt batteries. The battery compartment on the back of the unit nearing the bottom of the unit. With the front of the unit facing away from you, run your fingers from the top centre of the clock downwards. You will feel a pitted area first which is the speaker, and then just down from this you will locate a ridged downward arrow shape. This is the top of the battery cover. Press down and slide down on the ridged arrow and the battery cover will come completely away revealing the battery compartment. The left hand battery goes in with the positive + side upwards. The right hand battery goes in with the negative - side upwards. To replace the battery cover, place the cover with the narrow end upwards over the battery compartment. This will fit in snugly with just about 5 millimetres gap left at the top. The push down and slide up to “click” the battery cover home. Once the batteries have been changed, ensure press the button on the back right hand side of the clock which is the middle button or S6 button (Reset). Troubleshooting: Your clock is a very delicate and precise instrument. Although uncommon, sometimes hard knocks or vibrations can cause the hands to move irregularly, and therefore display the incorrect time, although the internal clock is keeping accurate. You may notice this when the clock is able to update signal and announce the right time but the hands are not synchronized with the talking time. Then the clock needs to be reset. Please go to the reset part of this instruction booklet. Clock not receiving time signal: Reasons for not being able to receive the time signals include: Being outside the signal area Being in a built up area Metal objects blocking the radio signal Interference from another electrical device like a computer monitor or TV. If your clock is unable to make contact with the radio signal, it will continue to function in the same way as a standard clock. The time will then be corrected the next time your clock receives the time signal. Clock runs 1 big step per every 2 seconds: Battery is low. Go to the battery replacement section earlier in this instruction booklet. No talking function after battery replacement: You need to press the Reset or S6 button on the centre back of the unit as described earlier in this instruction booklet. Hour, minute and second hand is not correct: You need to reset the clock as described earlier in this instruction booklet. Hands running fast time after battery replacement: Please refer back to the reset section as described earlier in this instruction booklet.
